Medicare Advantage Scam!
President Richard Davis settled the TWU Local 100, May 2023, Contract on the backs of actives and retirees. We have some crucial updates to share regarding recent events and developments that affect each and every one of us. On Friday, October 6th, a significant event took place that demands our attention and action.
Medicare Advantage Meeting - Actives and Retiree Concerns
On that day, a Medicare Advantage meeting was hosted by TWU Local 100, although it was initially communicated as a non-union event. However, before and during the meeting, it became evident that union leadership was involved.
The Shift to Medicare Advantage
The most pressing matter discussed was the impending transition of our retirees from traditional Medicare plans to Medicare Advantage starting on January 1, 2024. Medicare Advantage is not medicare it is a diminished benefits. It is not excepted in all 50 states. Medicare Advantage, which involves private insurance, is currently under investigation by the United States Congress due to concerns about its legitimacy.
Standing Up for Our Members
In a show of solidarity and commitment to our members, one of our own, Evangeline Byars, along with Celso Garcia, took it upon themselves to inform retirees about the implications of this change. They distributed crucial information at the meeting to ensure that our retirees are well-informed about what to expect come January 1st.
Historical Context
This event highlights a significant turn of events in the history of the Transport Workers Local Union of America. It was revealed that the creation regarding Medicare Advantage options began as early as October 1, 2012 and were updated in October 1, 2014. These revelations raise questions about the current administration's alignment with management and the MTA.
The Fight for Fairness
We have faced challenges before, such as the Tier 6 pension system changes, and now the Medicare Advantage transition. It is imperative that we remain vigilant and engaged in this ongoing fight for fair representation and fair contracts.
Get Involved
Now, more than ever, we call upon every member to join us in this crucial endeavor. It's time to educate, agitate, and organize. We must ensure that the hard-won gains of the men and women of TWU Local 100 are not eroded, and our members receive the representation they deserve.
Stay tuned for further updates and opportunities to get involved. Together, we can safeguard the future of our union and protect the rights and benefits of our members.
